Known as Wiriyagan in the Gadigal language of the first people of Sydney, Banksia serrata, the Saw Banksia or Coastal Banksia, is the best known of the banksias as it was collected by Sir Joseph Banks at Botany Bay when he visited there with Captain James Cook in 1770. It is found in coastal bushland in eastern Australia from Queensland down to Tasmania.
