Wollemi Pine The Wollemi Pine (family Araucariaceae) is one of the world’s oldest and rarest trees. There was much excitement surrounding the discovery of this species in a deep, isolated gorge north-west of Sydney in 1994, likened ".. to finding a small dinosaur on Earth.” As soon as the significance of this new species was realised, fresh material was collected from the open door of a helicopter and rushed out to the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney where I prepared the first-ever illustrations of this species. This print is of a painting I did in 2011 of a branch with a male cone, with a mature tree in its natural habitat in the background.
